The R.A.P. CameraPad

The R.A.P. CameraPad is an innovative new product designed to reduce shoulder and neck pain in cameramen using hand-held cameras.

The R.A.P. CameraPad was developed by an award-winning cameraman and a certified orthotist, in response to many complaints of painful shoulders by camera operataors.

Our soft gel pad replaces the hard, non-pliable pad presently used with commercial cameras. This takes the weight of the camera away from the bony prominences, and serves as a pillowy-soft cushion.

  • Gel Filled
  • Non Toxic
  • Hypo-Allergenic
  • Remains firm but pliable in hot conditions
  • Will not freeze (even at -30!)
  • Durable Neoprene cover
  • Can stay on camera when mounted on tripod
  • Easily attaches to any broadcast or professional camera with velcro
  • Compatible with Porta-Brace cases
  • Washes in lukewarm water (antibacterial soap recommended)

The CameraPad is attached with Velcro in place of the camera's regular pad. It has been designed to keep clear of the tripod mounting plate, for maximum speed and ease of use. It can be used on any broadcast-type camera - pictured above are the Panasonic AJ-D810 DVCPRO and the Sony BVW-D600 Betacam.

The CameraPad also works well with Porta-Brace camera cases.

The prototype CameraPad shown in the photographs below has been in service, shooting daily news, for more than five years. Aldo Columpsi, the veteran cameraman who helped develop it, had been suffering from shoulder pain and tingling and numbness in his fingers. Since he has been using the CameraPad, these symptoms have disappeared. According to Aldo, "It saved my career."

R.A.P. CameraPads are now available for sale from Downstream Pictures, at an introductory price of $100.
